Respiratory Therapy


The Respiratory Department at Republic County Hospital provides services to treat patients of all ages.

Our Respiratory Therapists evaluate, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders, on a one-on-one basis, with sensitivity to the physical and psychological needs of each patient.

The Respiratory Therapists offer care to to inpatients, outpatients, emergency room patients, nursing home residents, and assist with obstetrical deliveries, including neonatal assessments and care.

The Respiratory Department offers extended services that include, but are not limited to:

24 hour Holter monitoring
Pulmonary Function Testing
Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Cardiac Rehabilitation
In-home and in-lab sleep studies
Coordination of In-lab sleep studies
Arterial Blood gases
Overnight Oximetry

The Respiratory Department implements various modalities to help facilitate the treatment of certain lung diseases and to achieve the highest performance level for patients on a daily basis.

These modalities include:

Oxygen therapy
Intubation
Ventilator/blowby
Aerosol medications
Breathing exercises
Inhalers
Postural drainage
Suctioning
Oxyhood
Vest system
Bi-pap
Oximetry/capnography
Smoking cessation education

The Respiratory Therapists at Republic County Hospital continually update their skills and education. Our Respiratory Therapists maintain current certification in the following:

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Basic Life Support (CPR-BLS)

Republic County Hospital's blood gas laboratory service is CLIA Certified. Respiratory Therapy is a 24-hour in-house department that operates 7 days a week.

Respiratory Therapists are in-house from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm with after hours coverage provided by on-call therapists.
